Day 6, cont.
On the way back to Cancun, we took the new Autopista. This was a mistake. It initially cost about $4.50 – but nearer to Cancun – we hit another toll booth that ran us another $17 or so. No wonder it was so empty!
We did make a stop at Ek Balam, another site of ruins. We were the only ones there for a while, though later on, there was another family also looking around. It is a beautiful site – and it has a nice pyramid, which we also climbed (that makes 3). Halfway up is a place that has these amazing sculptures – I don’t know what they were made of, I think some sort of stucco – they weren’t carved stone – but they were beautiful and amazingly well preserved. I highly recommend this site as well. I took a ton of pics, so I won’t go into too much detail here either.
There are plenty of gas stations – but if you need gas, make sure you get it, because they are kind of far apart. If you want to fill up with regular, say “Lleno, magna sin, por favor” – (yay-no, magna seen). Fun!
We got back to Cancun for dinner and were so tired we went back to the mall and La Fisheria. We again ordered the empadas for the appetizer (very good!) and I ordered some sort of grouper dish. They had a great guitarist playing in the restaurant too. I was the only one clapping for him, and I had a red t-shirt one, so he dedicated Lady in Red to me. It was funny.
