Lake Como, Italy – Friday

Today, Friday, went better than I had hoped – we met the lovely Gigliola at 9am, and she is a professional tourguide and worked with the Star Wars production when they shot here.

She gave us a lovely tour of all the places they shot scenes from Star Wars, all along the way, she pointed out spots where the crew stayed, the crew’s offices where, where the cameras were, where the video monitors were – it was a delightful tour!

We first stopped at this lovely hidden garden with stone work and a lovely fountain. There is a landing here, where they shot a cut gondola scene – where Padme and Anakin arrive to visit her parents on Naboo. It was so beautiful! It rained this morning, but by the time we left, it was misty and cloudy, but the low clouds were beautiful in the mountains – and then the sun peeped through in gorgeous rays. She said it was very like the weather they had when they shot here in early September.

Next we went meadow where they filmed the picnic scene in AOTC, which was fairly small and hilly – but very pretty. I did a quick change into my picnic costume, which I had made the year previous. I dragged the costume all over Europe because I thought I might have a chance to take photos of me in it in the place where the real one was worn. It was so worth it, because it was a beautiful day and the pics came out really nicely. There was nowhere really to change, so I put the skirt on over my jeans (and kept my sneakers on!) and did a quick change into the rest of it by the car. There were no people around! I had done my hair at the hotel. The meadow was very wet, and my sneakers got soaked! Here are a few pics:

Next, Gigliola took us to the place we needed to be to catch a ferry over to Villa Balbianello. Here are a few pics I took on the way:

The ferry ride was quick, and the view of the Villa as you approach it is really pretty!

One of the first things you see is the balcony where Padme and Anakin kiss for the first time in AOTC, and where they get married. Say what you will about the movie, the location is amazingly beautiful, and it was so thrilling to see it in person!

Here is the boat landing where Padme’s gondola pulls off and she steps off it in the Lake gown. In the movie, they walk across and end up at the balcony where they kiss.

Here is a little church. It wasn’t in AOTC.

This building is in AOTC – Anakin stands in front of the balcony here in the morning. One of the rooms was used as Padme’s bedroom.

Gigliola gave us a tour of the inside of the Villa too, which was last owned by an explorer – he went all over – the artic, everest – and collected artifacts and art all over the world, which is all displayed in his Villa as a museum. It was very very cool.

Here we are taking the ferry away from the Villa!
