AROTR – Saturday, Part 2

We met up with Laura today, which was great – she took us to an awesome Louisville joint for dinner called Lynn’s Paradise Cafe – the restaurant had all kinds of kitschy decorations – it was really cool. I had a fried green tomato BLT. It was yummy.

ETA: In 2012, Laura took her own life. It’s really sad to look back on these pictures and the good time we had. :-(

After dinner, Katie and I caught part of Gavin Pring’s set. He sounded great – he played Cheer Down, which I love, and the pirate song that Real George did on Python. Fun!

Here’s Real George doing the pirate thing on Python:

Then we all went up to rest – we had planned to go to the White Album performance, which was on the main stage. But when we go out to the elevator lobby on our floor, which had a view of the festival – there was an enormous crowd filling the whole lawn! (I wish I had gotten a picture!) We had no idea it would be such a huge event! And apparently this year, there was no roped off area for the Ultimate Ticket to Ride holders. So we watched part of it from the back ….

…so at 9:15, went to see The Return at the smaller stage instead. We stood in the front and screamed and cheered and sang along. It was awesome. Except for these idiot smokers who were next to us. They weren’t supposed to smoke there, but worse, they kept blowing smoke onto the stage, right into the performers. They sadly chased J-9 away – they might have chased me away too, but someone behind them finally shamed them into putting their cigarettes out.

ETA: It’s awesome to look back since we’re good friends with the guys in The Return, and their roadies now. :-)

Some of my pics are blurry because I was trying not to be obnoxious with my flash – I kind of like the sense of motion it gave some of them!

A few of Janine’s pics of me and Katie watching the concert (and gazing “adoringly” at Mike/George):

This band really has the mannerisms and look down – and the Paul, if you close your eyes, you would swear you were listening to the real thing!

J-9 is friendly with Mike/George from the band (and also Shane/Paul), and he’s really nice, so we’ve chatted with him on and off all weekend.

After The Return, we went up to change for the evening.

I tried to get a pic of the crowded lawn, as the White Album concert was going on – you can kind of see it:

Janine went down early to take care of official stuff and the rest of us went down in our costumes later, all feeling like idiots sharing the elevators with people going to a wedding.

We had to sit through 2 bands before the contest happened. Both were good (though the first wouldn’t get off the stage and let Jim “Ringo” Martin’s band on), but we were all tired and hadn’t gotten a second wind yet. Jim “Ringo” Martin’s band was quite enjoyable, but I enjoyed them more after the contest was all done and I could relax! I enjoyed their second set a great deal!

Here’s a few pics of his band:

The blonde is Paula, Jim’s wife – she was super sweet. And the other guy is James Paul Lynch, who is also super nice.

His younger brother, David, was at the festival and sat in on bass for a bunch of performances. He was really friendly with us because I don’t think he had many friends at the festival other than the ones he came with, since he was new.

The singer from All You Need Is Love even joined in for a song!

It was more fun after the contest, because J-9 changed into her Pepper Paul, and we enjoyed the rest of Jim “Ringo” Martin’s set, and then had our pic taken with lots of people, including the George from The Return (who was no longer in costume).

James Paul Lynch changed into a kilt after the costume contest, for the second set! And Paula dressed as Marilyn Monroe!
