Florida Trip Report (iphone)

Here’s one more post on my trip!

Let’s see, the gig was Saturday night. Some of us flew in Friday, some of us were already there for work, and poor Rich flew in Saturday morning.

Saturday we were mostly able to relax until it was time to head over to Titusville, to the Astronaut Hall of Fame.

After the gig, some of us hung out at the only thing open, the hotel bar, which played mostly bad 70s disco. We had some good laughs though, and Rich is hilarious with 2 scotches in him. :-)

Rich flew out early early Sunday – the rest of us went kayaking – which is when we saw the manatees!

I didn’t take any iphone pics kayaking, I didn’t bring it for fear of accidentally dropping it.

Here’s the view of the VAB from the park where we watched the launch! That’s the pier we watched it from.

I guess people at the park were pretty excited for the launch!

After the launch we headed to New Smyrna Beach – at Fish Camp, there was a river dolphin fishing!

Monday night Rob, Doug and I tried to get drinks at the tiki bar, but they were closed. We went back to the hotel bar, but it wasn’t all that appealing. So we decided we’d get a six-pack and take it to the beach. Of course, the liquor store was closed, the supermarket was closed (and had closed at 8!), finally we tried a 7-11 and lucked out there. So we sat out on the beach and watched the cloud-to-cloud lightening.

Tuesday, we were leaving, but we had time for a whirlwind trip to Kennedy Space Center. Our GSFC badges didn’t let us get on the bus tour, it wouldn’t have only let me in the regular exhibits and we would have had to wait on another long line, so we just paid to get in. We split up from Kevin and Jenna as they didn’t want to see the launch pad view (Kevin had just been up on the gantry anyway!).

Here’s the Orion capsule. Nothing like taking a step backwards!

We did manage to squeeze in the Shuttle Launch Experience before we had to leave for the airport. It was pretty cool!
