What I’ve been up to – iphone pic post

So, with all the traveling, I haven’t posted about what else I’ve been up to!

We had a whole slew of birthdays in August. Here is Koji’s birthday lunch:

Koji really really hates Hello Kitty, so what else were we to do?

We went to the supermarket to buy him a birthday cake!
IMG_6210

He was very happy.

IMG_6212

Our friends John and Beth moved to NYC, so we had one last game night with them.
IMG_6214

Before they left, Beth made us a *second* cake for Koji! He never saw it coming!
IMG_6215

IMG_6216

Also, Beth made it from scratch and it was really really good.
IMG_6217

Koji really liked it too.
IMG_6218

Poor kitty.

John’s last week at work was kinda bad timing because I had already made plans to go to Pittsburgh to see Paul McCartney.

Which was awesome. My best pic:

I did manage to work the Pittsburgh trip to fit in as much as I could. I got to go to John’s goodbye lunch (and Doug came with!) and then we went straight from there to Pittsburgh. And we came back in time for me to be there for most of his last day. The day of his goodbye lunch, Beth came in too, and I showed her and Doug around at work in the morning. Beth made this amazing looking cake for tea. Too bad I wasn’t around for tea that day! D’oh!

IMG_6221

Bryan pointed out that it looked like a breast. “But it’s got a rose on it,” protested Beth. o_O

We went to the Indian buffet for lunch.

The tradition pic of my officemate taking a pic of me taking a pic of him.

Honey balls! [insert joke here]

Did I mention that it was also John’s birthday that day?

IMG_6245

Doug and I got on the road shortly. Hipstamatic makes the drive look cooler than it was!

We had lunch the following day at the Cheesecake Factory. The waiters were not dressed like Penny on Big Bang Theory. I did like the ceiling art though. Oh and the Fish Tacos were awesome. Which is funny, because I just tried them at the one in Annapolis and they weren’t very good.

And then Paul. So awesome!

When I got back to work on Friday, they had saved me some of Beth’s cake. It had custard inside and was really really good.
IMG_6251

Since John was leaving and thus didn’t need his desk anymore, we set up his officemate’s alien toys on his desk. They’re dancing.
IMG_6295

John leaves his office for the last time. *sniff*
IMG_6296

On his last day, they also finally removed our plywood hallway.
IMG_6297

On Saturday Doug and I visited my parents.

The Delaware Memorial Bridge:

IMG_6300

We went to a really great restaurant!
IMG_6301

And went to a few antique stores! Poor Dad and Doug!

I liked this portrait – it was expensive though. Couldn’t get a great pic of it.
IMG_6304

Pretty sky. Not great pic.
IMG_6305

We brought my parents a giant zucchini that grew in our garden. Note that we didn’t plant any zucchini. Our garden has not done well this summer. Except for that one zucchini. Did I mention I don’t like zucchini?
IMG_6307

And the ride home back over the bridge:

On a nice Friday at work, we decided to eat lunch at the lake. Don, Steve, and I drove across the street to get takeout from Chicken Rico. Don had called his order in, since he wasn’t getting just the usual chicken. He got his right away. Steve and I had to wait in line. Don decided to walk back to see how far he could get. He was just getting to the picnic table when we pulled up, it took so long!

Also, I did not know Guacamole came on packets. O_o

IMG_6322

Steve was going to stay and fish for a little (it’s catch and release), so Don and I started walking back to the office. But then we saw some flat stones and decided to try skipping them. Steve ended up coming over to where we were. He said it looked like we were having more fun than he was. Steve is really good at skipping stones.

IMG_6327

IMG_6324

darthed had joined us for lunch and he skipped some stones too! I have no pictoral evidence though.

A fiendish thingie:
IMG_6329

I loved my Obi-Wan cup. But the plastic finally splintered and broke. :-(
IMG_6330

For Doug’s b-day we had a couple of people over for a BBQ. jedimjv brought his Indy bullwhips with him and they had a lesson. I was afraid of putting out an eye and I was getting bitten by mosquitos, so Ed, Don, and I went inside to play jenga instead. :-)
IMG_6335

Oh look it’s another birthday! At the Indian place! With honey balls!
IMG_6339

This time it was Steve’s birthday!
IMG_6340

IMG_6341

This looks familiar! And he’s even (unintentionally) looking in the same direction as John. Actually that’s pretty funny.
IMG_6344

IMG_6345

And then…another birthday lunch! This time Craig!

I already posted my 365 pics and about the horrible office noises, and ad nauseum about DragonCon, which brings us to last weekend, the weekend after DragonCon! As it happened, Christina, Amber, Janine and Ron were going to be in a race in DC, so we had a mini-DragonCon reunion at Cricket and her husband’s house (which is old and beautiful). We took pics of Janine in her regency dresses:
IMG_6655

And then went out for a nice, long dinner in Old Town Alexandria. I had a really fun time!

After dinner, we hung out in Janine and Ron’s room while they got ready for the race. They were really tired and had to get up early, so I was going to go, but then Amber and Christina invited me to hang out in their room for a while, and we had a fun time talking and hanging out. Yay!

I loved this old photo on the wall at Cricket’s – check out the girl’s awesome striped tights!
IMG_6658

IMG_6657

The bad part was that Sunday turned out to be a really crappy day weather-wise, so they ended up not being able to do the race, after all that.

Sunday, Don and I went to the Small Press Expo over in Bethesda and picked up some books and other stuff from web comics we like. We tried to check out Intervention, which was the same weekend, but they apparently were done early on Sunday, so that didn’t work out. We did get over to the used book store, so I was able to dump off a whole bunch of books to donate and picked out a few new ones.
IMG_6670

Monday I got to see an awesome talk by Astronaut John Grunsfeld about being awesome. Ok, it was about his shuttle flights AND climbing Denali. Fascinating. It went nearly a half hour long, but no one left.
IMG_6690

And that’s been my life for the last month or so!
