Trip Report: Las Vegas, Part 5

Saturday morning I finally checked out the pool area (didn’t have time to go in) with Doug. Then he went off on a second casino death march (he made it pretty far too) and I met up with Sara for the last day of Blogworld.

In Mandalay Bay, near the Starbucks is this odd wall of boobs and butts.

We tried like 3 different talks that morning. One was having technical difficulties, another was stupid, and a third was not on a topic that would have any relevance to us. So we checked out the exhibit hall again.

We got to write on a car that was going to be crash tested.

We learned about the accessories you could use to take video with a small player:

And we were handed small video cameras to use for the video safari we’d signed up for.

Next we headed over to the Blogworld kitchen, where one of the Top Chef DC people was going to give a demo. Stephen Hopcraft. We chatted with him for a bit. He was really nice and took a pic with me:

We even got to sample the paella he cooked:

We wandered around some more after that, and they brought out a huge spread of food, but I was stuffed from the paella.

And that was more or less it for Blogworld.

After I was done, I met up with koshka_the_cat, who also brought twilatee with her and we did some touristy things!

Like go to the Stratisphere, which is a huge space-needle-like thing. You can actually see it way at the right end of the strip near the middle of this pic. It’s very tall.

There are some crazy suicidal rides on the Stratisphere – like this one that looks like it’s going to shoot you off of it.

Then we figured out that you could go up one more floor to the open air deck! Here’s a group pic:

Katherine could see her house from up there!

I got this cool shot when we drove away:

And some views of the strip:

We parked at NY NY (all the casino parking is free which is awesome) and had dinner at a chinese place there, which Katherine and Twila liked. I have to say that the food there was awesome and I’d totally go there again! I didn’t take pics of the food. I think the thing I liked best was actually the eggplant in garlic sauce that Katherine ordered! I’m on a big eggplant kick lately, after not having liked it my whole life until last year.

Next we drove over to Bellagio and checked out the Halloween decorations again:

And of course we checked out the Bellagio fountains again!

I was really pulling for no Proud to Be an American. And we got… Celine Dion. Dammit! I really don’t like that Titanic song.

But the show was cool. It started out with mist!

The next show was… This Kiss. Faith Hill. Not a fan.

I think the next one was a Andrea Bocelli & Sarah Brightman song, Con Te Partiro.

And then, the next show didn’t happen when it was supposed to. And we saw someone out there who looked like they were fixing something.

But right before the next show would have started, the fountains started up! I can’t remember now, but I think it was Singin’ in the Rain – which I was happy to leave things on.

We decided to go, since we’d seen that one last show, but as we were starting to move, the next show started, putting them back on schedule! And it was “Fly Me To the Moon”! Which I’d really wanted to see, so it was a really nice way to end the night!

The very last thing we did was go see the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign! There’s a parking lot right near it!

Twila took a pic for us:

It was really great getting a chance to catch up with Katherine again – and it was nice meeting Twila!

Our flight was early the next morning!
