Abbey Road on the River 2011

I had such a great time this year – not only did Michelle get to come for the first time, but Janine surprised us by showing up on Saturday!

In addition to my friend Rob, Michelle, Katie and J-9/Ron, two of Katie’s friends, Cara and Alex came along. They were really fun girls, and we all had a great time! Another addition to our gang was Katie’s artist friend Billy, whom we had met when we visited her in Cleveland. He had a tent and he did really well selling his art.

Anyway, I had a great time – and got to see pretty much all of the Scottish band Revolver’s shows, except the first one. Their drummer had gotten sick the night before they’d flown out – and last minute they flew in a friend of theirs, Billy. He did a great job, and if I hadn’t known he wasn’t their drummer, I wouldn’t have guessed! Not only is he not in a different Beatles band (he’s in a Zeppelin band), but he’d never really played Beatles before. He was a pro though. They sounded great. AND they wore kilts for a couple of shows. Awesome!

Here are a few of my fav pics from the weekend.

Every year after the big Saturday show, the string section plays in the hall:

Saturday night we were up til 4am hanging out in the room. We started talking about other music we like, and Billy mentioned Toad the Wet Sprocket. Rob and I told him how Glen Phillips had played in our cafeteria at work, randomly. And then Michelle, Billy and I cued up some Toad on YouTube. And we thought it was so funny that we were up at 4am at a Beatles festival listening to Toad. And then we realized we were all staring at the laptop, despite the fact that the youtube video was just showing the cover art and nothing else. :-)

Janine got the idea to use a black and white filter on pics of BritBeat, and we all copied her because it was a great idea!

I also finally got to meet Marcia, who has made a business of making Sgt Pepper costumes. She did most of the Pepper costumes for Britbeat. Chris (their Paul) did a bunch of his own research, and I happily gave her mine, and I think she’s doing quite well for herself! I’m happy to send the business her way because I don’t want to make them, and she does a great job! It was nice to see Britbeat in their costumes:

More Revolver. Seriously – they’re really fun to photograph, so I took lots:
