Arizona trip – Day 2, Glen Canyon Dam, Horseshoe Bend

After Rainbow Bridge, we had lunch at the Dam Bar & Grille. Their Dam chips were excellent. And many lame Dam jokes were made.

After lunch was our scheduled spontaneous time, so we headed to the Glen Canyon Dam visitors center to see if we could get on a tour. As I waited on line, there was some lady in front of me who didn’t want to go on the tour but took a lot of time asking what she could see on her own. While she was at the front of the line, the phone rang and they gave away enough spots on the last tour of the day, that they had one fewer than we had people. D’oh. Don volunteered to skip the Dam tour since he’d see the Hoover Dam and he tried to check out a museum instead. (It was closed. D’oh.)

So the rest of us went on the 45 minute tour, which I thought was pretty cool.

The green down below is actually grass! It’s there to keep the dust down:

After that, we went to a scenic overlook. There was a really short hike to it over some cool wavy rock:

Next we headed to Horseshoe Bend. There was a hike up a sandy hill and then down half a mile. Where you get this this view:
