Disney Halloween 2012 – Friday

Friday morning, Doug and I headed over to the Magic Kingdom to meet up with my friend Meredith and her family.

Disney at Halloween is so cool. I adored how Main Street looked, all dressed up for fall!

Doug and I had a jinx on us at first, where every ride we went on broke down. We got on Splash Mountain and it broke down here:

We had to be pried out of our cars and walk out through the backlot. We did get a free fastpass, but we wasted like 40 minutes. We met up with Meredith and family to go on the Haunted Mansion and that stopped a couple of times too. Not as bad as Splash Mountain, though. Then Splash Mountain looked like it was up, so we tried again, but no, the ride was down again. So we went on Thunder Mountain and managed to get a back row.

For lunch we tried something I’d been wanting to try for a while, a sweet and spicy chicken waffle sandwich. They were huge, so Doug and I split one. I’d definitely get it again:

My pink Elizabeth Monroe gown that I love is gone from the Hall of Presidents. Sad! But this cool zone front, a replica of a Martha Washington gown from the late 1780s is pretty cool.

The Haunted Mansion is far less scary looking with a blue sky:

Poor Meredith wasn’t feeling well, so I ended up using her fast pass for Peter Pan to help Larry out with Kayli. It’s such a cute ride, though I’m not sure the ginormous line is justified.

We grabbed some corndog nuggets on the way out at Casey’s:

The sky got pretty ominous when we were leaving too. Which coincided with one of the parades. I like this shot:

We got on the monorail but when we got off it was POURING. We didn’t want to get drenched again (I was on my 4th pair of socks since my shoes got wet on Thursday, and I’d only brought one extra pair, and I had to buy MICKEY socks. Which was awesome.) so we waited under the overhang for it to lighten up. It eventually did, and we walked through the light rain to the car and headed over to the race expo so everyone could pick up their packets. We also met up with Conley, Christina, and Amber. We headed back to the hotel after for a short rest before it was time to head to dinner.

I almost got this shirt because I loved the design, but it was a kind of a weird cut of shirt:

This is a pic of what the ToT Ten Miler race medal looks like. Pretty cool!

We met up with everyone but Janine and Ron at Portobello for dinner. The food was pretty great again and they are so nice there. I recommend the Mozzarella Stuffed Rice Balls and Sambuca Shrimp for appetizers.

We were due to meet up with Janine and Ron at Disney later for the Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. We had plans to all wear Star Trek costumes (of varying kinds) and be an away team. Our dinner took longer than planned, and while we ate, we were texted awesome pictures like this:

And told that the ferry captain actually held the boat for them after they had already shut the doors because they’d been “stuck in the Delta quadrant for too long.” How awesome is that?

And then the best Space Mountain picture ever happened:

And honestly this one of Ron is one of my favorites from the night:

We finally got there a little before 9:30 and with 5 or 10 minutes to spare for the fireworks!

We did go on Pirates and got wet!
IMG_5324

And took some Star Trek themed tickets. Like Ensign Conley getting felled by friendly fire!

Noo! Not Ensign Conley!

Also note we are all wearing sneakers. Sure we were all dying of heat in our long sleeved costumes – but we all wanted to take care of our feet! ;-)

Amber, Janine and Ron ended up watching the parade. The rest of us caught the Headless Horseman, which was cool, but ultimately decided we didn’t have a lot of time, only til midnight, so we’d ride some rides. We went on the Astro Orbiter (which I’d never been on), the people mover and then met back up with Amber for Space Mountain.

Riding Space Mountain in a Star Trek costume? Achievement unlocked! Note that we split into blueshirts and redshirts:

We finally caught up with Janine and Ron at the end of the night:

This is one of my fav pics from the night. Main St all lit up and the castle and balloons!

And looking the other way down Main St:

There was kind of a giant clusterf**k for the ferry to get out. There were SO many people. But finally we got on a ferry. It wouldn’t have been bad except it was still SO hot and humid at midnight.

Group pic on the ferry!
