What I’ve been up to… (cats, snakes, flowers, a butterfly, work stuff, and more!)

I got one shot of this yellow butterfly on one of the dahlias. I haven’t seen this type of butterfly in the garden before.

I love this pic of Willow. She made herself right at home on a Macy’s box with Doug’s birthday present from his parents in it.

Also, she really likes cracks in the sofa.

A few weeks ago there was a lot of noise in the hallway, so I went out to see what was going on. And to glare at whoever was being so loud. Imagine my surprise when a girl says, “A snake just slithered into that office!” and pointed at Alex’s door. Alex is our new guy, the one that looks a lot like Dan Radcliffe. He happened to not be there that day. Don and I didn’t have a key to his office but eventually the building FOM (manager) was called and he came and unlocked the door. So then we had 5 people looking for the snake in Alex’s office. I actually spotted him in the corner behind a white board that hadn’t been hung up yet. There happened to be a long pointer lying around, so I grabbed that and managed to pick up the snake with it. One of the other people had a box, so I dropped him in there. Then we took him around to show him off and we took lots of pictures. After which we carried him outside. He started to get more active once he sensed freedom was within his grasp and he got out of the box pretty easily and slithered off into the grass. We still don’t know how he got up to the second floor. The stairs? The elevator? We looked up online and think he’s a juvenile Eastern rat snake.

I’ve been taking a ton of flower pics since there hasn’t been much else to photograph lately. Our garden (after a late, dry start) is really blooming nicely now. The roses though are at work.

We were given little seed packets from our company at our last company meeting. I don’t know why. But this is what we did with them.
IMG_4922

Originally Don and I decided we were Team Edward (him) and Team Jacob (me). And believe it or not this was his suggestion. Then Alex sees ours and announces his plant is Renesme. We forced Tim to name his Bella.

All the seeds are now dead. They were not very hardy, apparently.

At work, we had some excitement when the first two flight mirrors (of 18) for JWST showed up in our cleanroom. They are in the silver cans.

We watched them use the crane to hoist one of them up to the balcony on the left.

In other work news, Entertainment Weekly “stole” (it was public domain anyway) one of our photos of the WMAP beachball (one of them is on the Big Bang Theory set) in the southern California surf, for their feature on the BBT set!

Fresh Market has these adorable pumpkin holders. I’m really tempted but they’re kind of expensive.

I’m very excited for fall and Halloween:

Here’s the mantleplace with my Halloween decorations. I think I posted this already:

I like this shot:

We had a tweetchat at work where people could tweet questions about JWST at John Mather, our Nobel Laureate, and he would answer them. We took a posed picture (it’ll be out on Tuesday) even though I was actually doing the typing for the actual tweetchat. Though he was answering the questions himself. It was just easier for me to be fixing things so they fit on Twitter. But the posed pic was fun. I added the WMAP beachball and it looks great in the actual photo, so I patted myself on the back for thinking of it! ;-)

Here’s a picture of his picture being taken:

We had tea outside the week before last, and though the weather was nice, I was freezing, so I got a blanket from my car. Alex had shorts on so he did the same. Then we took a silly picture of us wrapped up in our blankets:

Don didn’t have a blanket, so he made do with his hoodie:
