2012 picture Year in Review, June – December

Here’s the 2nd part of the Year in Review:

June:
We had our family vacation in New Smyrna Beach, FL, in which Doug and I were granted the gorgeous master bedroom. We tried a new condo this year that none of us liked as much as the old one.

Doug and I went to Disney for the evening. It was rainy but we had an awesome time. Until I discovered I’d lost one of my fav earrings. :-( I’m still upset about it. Oh well, it was a fun night anyway.

July:
A Beatle acknowledged my existence! Ringo retweeted me after his concert! I took my Mom to the concert and Joe went with us. We had a fabulous time!

I know this is supposed to be good stuff, but here’s one eventful thing that wasn’t so good. We were hit by the huge Derecho storm and we lost power for 3 days. When it was 105 degrees out.

But we did at least get lunch with some friends in town.

And Joe came to town too and we got some guitar time in.

Which included a trip to a salt mine:

Back in the States… another butterfly:

We had lots of dahlias in late August:

We went to a special late-night tasting at our favorite Burmese place:

September:

Another butterfly:

We figured out where the dinosaur footprints discovered at work were:

And we were there when they discovered a baby dinosaur print inside the adult one:

We had a great time at DragonCon even if we missed those of you who weren’t there:

We had epic Big Bang Theory and Star Trek costume groups, and I had a really nice conversation with John Rhys Davies about science and science education.
IMG_4436

Doug had a nice hiking/camping trip to Yosemite, which was kind of hard for me since he was almost completely out of contact the whole week, but my parents came over and we repainted the addition/hobby room on our house and I’m really happy with it now.

October

Another butterfly:

Willow continued to amuse us:

There were a number of snakes this year. When Joe and I were playing guitar outside, one slithered up to us. And then we caught this in Alex’s second floor office:

I met the girls in the band First Aid Kit. They were so nice! And they were wonderful in concert!

In October we also went back for a Disney weekend for the Tower of Terror 10 miler. And the Epcot Food & Wine festival, which was so good we want to go back. And for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, which we want to go to again. I loved the park decorations a lot. It was super hot that weekend though, and the racers were pretty miserable. And we got rained on every day but one. But overall, we had an excellent time.

We all wore Trek costumes to the MNSSHP, which was possibly a mistake because it was so hot that night. But then there were epic pictures like these:

John, Beth, and Doug ran a zombie race. Beth survived. :-)

The next day, Doug and I cheered our friend Conley in her first Marathon!

And took in some DC scenery while we were there:

Conley and I spent a lot of the rest of the weekend watching Downton Abbey.

Doug and I got another use out of our Trek costumes for Halloween:

November:

This was on Election Day. I love this sweater – it’s the same brand as Amy Pond wore on Dinosaurs on a Spaceship.
IMG_6412

I went to a Regency Pumpkin tea:
IMG_2052

And I went to my 2nd DFWCG event this year, a Georgian picnic. It was wonderful. I got to visit lots with Lesa and Terry again, and I finally got to meet who came all the way out from Finland! A bunch of us went out for dinner afterwards and it was all just wonderful. I was pretty happy with my outfit too.

At Thanksgiving in Pittsburgh, we went on the Incline, which I’d never done before:

December

We got to see Conley again during the writer’s workshop weekend, which was awesome. This time we watched a lot of Simpsons. We also bought and decorated our tree and tried out the Epcot Food & Wine scallop recipe!

IMG_7015

IMG_7013

My officemate and I epic-ly stole Alex and our other new guy Joe’s 6 foot Christmas tree and it took them three hours to notice it was missing, and that our new tree was in fact their tree.
IMG_7032

I met another astronaut, Joe Acaba:
IMG_7065

And we had an awesome Korean BBQ lunch with Amber in Rockville – I want to go back! (Is this a place for an R.E.M. reference?)
IMG_7068

We had front row seats for Ballet West’s nutcracker – we were really excited to see Alli, Beckanne, and Ronnie dance.

IMG_7096

We were literally right over the tuba though.
IMG_7097

Doug and I went shopping in DC at the museum gift shops for Xmas:

Then we saw our niece in the Nutcracker in Allentown – the first time performing in it on pointe – we were so proud!

The following weekend was a rushed and trafficky trip to Pittsburgh, though we had a nice timet here.

And then it was Christmas! We had Ed, Rob, Koji and my parents over again and had a great Christmas dinner. That scallop recipe again, pork tenderloin with a honey mustard chipotle sauce, risotto, parmesan crusted squash, squash soup, and Koji made an apple pie. Yum.

In 2012, my band came very close to finishing our first CD. We’re just working on the finishing touches now on the last few songs, and the artwork. We’re really excited about it.

And that was 2012. I got a clean bill of health this year, too. I hope 2013 will be as good to me as 2012 was.
