Norway Day 7: morning in Berlevåg

The next day in Berlevåg was gorgeous. In the fifies, sunny – just beautiful!

Our pensjonat owner also owns an art glass gallery, so we decided to check that out. The art was lovely – I only snapped one pic, of these pieces which had the symbols from the Alta rock carvings on them! How cool! They had lots of little, relatively low priced pieces, so I bought a glass tile with the porpoises on it to hang on my window at home!

Of course, when we got back to our apartment, we noticed the glass was all over the place!

The guys had given us the van so we could drive around, so we spent the morning driving around.

We wandered down to the big breakwater which was covered in tetrapods. They are really cool because their shape allows them to absorb the energy of the waves because the water can get around and through their shapes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetrapod_%28structure%29

After that we went to Kafe Velferden – it might have been like the only place in town, but that was one of the best bacon cheeseburgers ever!

We also walked up the hill to check out this church. It only dates to 1960 because the Nazis really destroyed Finnmark (this county in Norway) and much had to be rebuilt. The retreating German army burned down the former church (recently refurbished) in 1944. Along with the rest of the village.
