Christmas Shopping in DC

Doug and I went Christmas shopping in DC – Doug wanted to go to the National Geographic store, and we realized that was pretty close to Golden Brown Delicious, a hipster chicken and waffles and donuts place Angela recommended.

So we checked it out. The host was nice enough to squeeze us in in the bar area (sorta – a small group had a big long table and they didn’t care if we shared the far end of it with them). After we ordered, I said “thank you” and he didn’t quite here me and said “what?” and I said “thank you” and he just rolled his eyes at me and left. o_O yeah. The food was pretty good. We thought their fryer was probably a little too hot because the outside of the fried chicken was overdone, but because it was thigh meat, the inside wasn’t dry. Anyway, the food was pretty tasty on the whole. We we tried a chicken and waffles, a small fried chicken biscuit slider, a pimento mac and cheese, and a couple of donuts, which were excellent, especially the maple bacon bourbon.

We felt like we were on The Amazing Race, picking up our clue at a DC landmark. :-)

Then we headed towards the White House and realized we’d never approached it from this angle. Usually we see it from the Mall side.

I may not be an Andrew Jackson fan, but this was picturesque:

We went to the White House gift shop:

And they had fake presidential stuff you could take pictures with:
