What I’ve Been Up To – May, part 1

Look at me, almost sort of catching up on stuff! Here’s May, part 1.

Kitty! May, and Willow is still with us!

We had the science consultant for the X-files speak at Goddard, and it was super fun! She was a really good speaker. And it was really fun to hear how she got involved with the show. Short version, her mom’s best friend/neighbor dated this surfer named Chris. Years later her mom called and asked if she knew the new show The X-files (she did and was a fan), and that it was Chris’s show (she had no idea!) and could he ask her some biology questions (he could!). So she consulted pretty much the whole run!

I gave a tour to my friend Raffa, which was fun because the JWST mirrors were uncovered.

They had folded the secondary mirror up by this point. But look at those reflections on the ceiling. I love this so hard.

My friend’s book came out! Read this series, it’s amazing! (Elected is the first book.)

Willow’s belly fur is finally growing back, but just in a line down her stomach. It’s too funny:

Then came the day when this happened. I’m going to blog JWST mirror day separately – but look at those gorgeous mirrors!

This deserves its own post, but here is a pic my co-worker Nasreen took of me from inside the cleanroom. Can you find me?

Planetwalk day – I was at Saturn this year – and had the perfect excuse to wear my Saturn shirt!
Lucky Earth with only one moon!

Yup, Uranus is 897 million miles away!

We did, for once, afterwards, take a walk on the far side of the Planetwalk (usually we are stationed in the inner solar system) over to Pluto. Here’s the Pluto sculpture:

And now for more food pictures! For the Odd Night Out, we went to a Peruvian restaurant called Ocopa in DC. The food was really good! Their mixed drinks were pretty phenomenal.

This was the Pisco Punch:
