What I’ve Been Up To, July, part 2

Back to July. It wasn’t so long ago was it?

That was when the Pokemon craze started. It was really fun looking around work to see what was a Pokestop. Like John Mather’s Nobel Prize.

The Goddard Godzillas are still around. I don’t know if this one is rapeling or is being thrown over.

Pidgeys were still kind of novel back in July.

I had a weedle in my coffee.

We met Amber in Alexandria for dinner at a delicious Ethiopian restaurant called Hawwi. Food was great, highly recommend!

Thanks to a Pokestop, we learned about this cute little building – it’s a tiny house in Alexandria that was literally built for spite. It was an alleyway in the 18th century, and the owner of the other two buildings got tired of people using it and built a house there to stop them.

I had to move this petticoat out of the way of where I had it, and when I couldn’t find Willow one day, I realized that she was nestled in it. It fit her perfectly!

While waiting for the ballet to start at Wolf Trap, I was able to get my Pokemon on a gym! This was early on the game. And it was nice that the gym was being held by all ladies. I guess it was the ballet though!

It was really cool getting to see Gillian Murphy dance Juliet. We were lucky enough (a while ago) to see Julie Kent do the role too.

This makes me laugh – Alex won a peer award and wasn’t there to collect it. We made Joe pose like he was angrily throwing it out. His expression makes me laugh.
IMG_2245

Then we changed the name and had Don present it to Joe.
IMG_2247

We had to give it to Alex eventually though. I didn’t make him do this.

Doug was out of town and this girl illicitly kept me company in the bedroom, where she’s usually not allowed. She was so happy.

At work – this is the helium shroud that was in the thermal vacuum chamber, keeping it extra cold. (Cooled via liquid helium.)

Authors Beth Revis along with Megan Miranda and Renee Ahdieh visited me at work. Here they are with John Mather.

Gloria was at Huntington and sent me this fun selfie of the sister of the woman in my fav 18th century portrait (Mary Russell). Our friend Katherine figured out that this woman (Margaret) has it sitting on her lap. More on Mary Russell: http://costumersguide.blogspot.com/2013/08/finding-mrs-russell.html

Her hair is very slowly coming in. All the meds she’s on don’t help with that. But she is doing great.
