2016 Year in Review – food

I’m trying to find new ways to do a year in review, especially for a year that was kind of a dumpster fire. But it wasn’t all bad, and in reviewing, I’m actually starting to feel a lot better about it. I’m going to divide it up differently this year. This post is on FOOD. We ate at a bunch … Continue Reading →

2016 books

I feel like I didn’t read as much this year. It was, as I’ve said, a hard year personally.  And I’m almost? embarrassed to say I reread the same book a few times, just because I found it comforting. And that was The Royal We by the Fug Girls. I really liked the book and for some reason, reading something … Continue Reading →

RIP Carrie Fisher

2016 has been a rough year, I can’t lie.  And the hits seem to keep coming.  I’m so very sad about losing Carrie Fisher. Princess Leia is a personal heroine to me, and she is one of my very favorite things about one of my favorite movies, When Harry Met Sally.   And I just missed meeting her. She was at … Continue Reading →

RIP Piers

So very sad today to hear that astronaut and scientist Piers Sellers passed away this morning. A year ago in November, he announced that after thinking he had complications after gall bladder surgery, in fact he had learned that he had terminal pancreatic cancer. I can’t even imagine getting a sudden diagnosis like that, but his email about it was … Continue Reading →

Riversdale Fancy Dress Ball

The lovely Riversdale House had a fancy dress regency ball in October, the weekend our friend Conley was in town, so we got tickets. I didn’t have time to sew anything new, but since I did have a 1790s gown that was based on a fashion plate, I called it good enough! Here’s the house: This is the fashion plate: … Continue Reading →

First Look at JWST

I’ve posted photos here and there over the last 9 months or so of the truly amazing experience and privilege of getting to witness JWST being built. Seeing those gold-coated mirrors for the first time was truly amazing. Getting to see them upright and in front of me, and see myself reflected… in the same mirrors that are going to … Continue Reading →

Disney Food & Wine, Day 4

Our last day we headed to Animal Kingdom in the morning. Some nice views of the Tree of Life: Find the heron: Okapi – the nicest view we’ve had of one: A little snack! One more view of the Tree of Life: We also, of course, went on Everest twice. Great ride. Then it was over to Epcot to finish … Continue Reading →

Disney Food & Wine, Day 3

Day three at Disney found us at Magic Kingdom in the morning. Did I mention I really like Halloween? The hall of presidents had a new replica first lady gown. This is a circa 1810 silk velvet replica of a Dolley Madison gown. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a gown like this is silk velvet? Interesting! A friend of … Continue Reading →

Disney Food & Wine, Day 2

On to Day 2 of our trip. We got up, put on Halloween shirts, got a Starbucks breakfast, and headed out for a morning at Hollywood Studios. We had lunch/early dinner at Epcot, then hit Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween party for the evening. I love the decor at Tower of Terror! I’m so glad the one in Florida isn’t … Continue Reading →

Disney Food & Wine, Day 1

We had plans to hit up Disney Food & Wine this fall for much needed long weekend away. We were able to get our awesome vet tech to med Willow and we arranged for her to be fed while we were gone – plus she was way more stable than the last time we did this. So off we went … Continue Reading →

Box Set Visit + Mansion on O. St.

I’ve been friends with Jeff from the Band Box set for a number of years. I saw them open for Huey Lewis like 15 years ago, and after emailing a little fan note, we struck up a pen pal friendship. He’s west coast though, and while I did briefly get to see him when he played in this area with … Continue Reading →
