What I was up to, February 2017, part 1

Continuing with the backlog of posts… Here’s part of February!

Let’s start off with more food! Doug and I went with Mike and Gloria to Co Co Sala for Restaurant week in DC. This place is a bit chocolate focused, which is all to the good. Doug and I started off with a Co Cojito – chocolate infused vodka, mint & lime, with dark chocolate flakes. It was good, but I’m not entire thing went together. With dinner we tried of a Fetish – strawberry, chocolate-infused vodka, strawberry foam, chocolate covered strawberry. It was delicious.

For dinner, you could choose a few small plates and then a dessert. My fav of them (thanks to all the people on Yelp who said how good it was) was the Sweet & Sour Cauliflower – the sauce was good and the cauliflower was crisp, probably coated and fried. It wasn’t heavy though. Delicious. Everything else was good – the cauliflower was the standout. The desserts were fab – we got one of each and split. The Chocolate Onyx – dark chocolate mousse, vanilla creme rule, salted caramel, crispy chocolate pearls, brownie, chocolate sorbet, cinnamon toffee bon bon. And a Latin Love Affair – dulcey chocolate mousse, cinnamon caramel, chocolate pecan cake, butter pecan dulcey ice cream, passion fruit caveat bon bon.

Dinner also started with a hot chocolate shooter, which was really good.

Chicken caesar salad. Very good.

Ravioli – meyer lemon, arugula & ricotta ravioli/white wine, lemon & caper butter sauce, crispy fried leeks.

Black Pearl Salmon:

The aforementioned cauliflower, on a bed of fried spinach. It was so tasty.

Bacon Mac & Cheese – with a piece of chocolate covered bacon. It was good but a bit much. I think we took most of it home. Very rich.

After dinner coffee came in these tall slender mugs with a metal holder. They were so odd that after a while, Mike blurted out, “Is no one going to mention the coffee cups??”

Dessert! The chocolate one of course:

A local historical house belonged to a former Supreme Court justice, Gabriel Duvall. There is some debate on Wikipedia on whether he is truly the least consequential justice ever. :-/

So happy. Her poor tummy never really regrew much fur because of all the meds she’s on. She actually has grown back quite a bit of hair, where she was shaved for her biopsy surgery a year and 8 months ago (from now, August, not Feb). But the prednisilone and oral chemo drug does not really promote hair growth, so she’s still got quite a few spots of shorter down. She’s a happy girl who feels good though, and that’s the important part.
