Abbey Road on the River 2018

Hey, we’re up to events at the end of May, hooray! This year I went to Abbey Road on the River, my Beatles festival, solo. My bestie Katie had a baby (and two other kids) she couldn’t leave. My husband took mine to Pittsburgh to see family, so I could do my annual pilgrimage to Louisville (well, Jeffersonville this year) to see friends and enjoy the music. I was glad I had my Norwegians to hang with, but I was definitely missing both Katie, and the baby and Doug, which took a little bit of the shine off it. But overall I had a good time.

And then, on the last day, Katie surprised me by coming to the festival with the whole family! I was so glad to see her and to get some time with her and to meet her new baby. It was awesome. I also had a lot of good food at some of the downtown Jeffersonville restaurants.

The other sad thing is that one of the musicians, Nicole, had suddenly passed away – they had a really cool memorial to her that I’m sure she would have loved. But it was weird to have her just not… be anymore.

I got breakfast two mornings here:

That breakfast burrito…

The second time I went it was for second breakfast. Fortunately I managed to convince Kjetil to meet me and I made him eat half of it.

I found an adorable kids/baby shop and browsed and got a cloth book for Elena.

One of the coolest things was getting to see Geoff Emerick speak, and getting to meet him. His first day on the job at EMI as a kid was working on the first Beatles album. He climbed the ladder to soon engineer and from Revolver on, was really responsible for helping the Beatles create their unique sound. He has 4 Grammys, and worked with other artists like solo McCartney, Elvis Costelloo, the Zombies, and more. I really liked his memoir, though I think it’s kind of harsh on George. It’s a good read. Sadly, he just passed away at the beginning of this month (2 Oct 2018), which was really sad to hear. I was really glad I met him when I did.

With Cindi and Kjetil:

With Kjetil, hiding out from the rain. He was in on the secret that Katie was coming to the festival after all. She showed up right after this.

And the Norwegians’ last gig. It was hilarious to see like 8 people clustered in front of Håvard recording his solos on While My Guitar…

And our traditional goodbye photos. The Norwegians were exhausted and leaving early the next morning. Katie and I watched some of the last set of one of the other bands. And I had an extremely early flight myself, so I couldn’t stay up very late. :-(

Did I mention it was super hot out that weekend? Per usual. So sweaty photos.

Wish I’d had more time with Katie, but I was so glad she came for the last day!
