Our 8th and last full day in England had us in London – and we had the whole day to explore. We knew we’d be getting just the highlights and had already accepted that we would be missing a ton of stuff. (I really wanted to do the Tower of London, but they suggest getting there firs thing, and our hotel was not nearby and also they suggest not going on the tube at rush hour with a stroller. So… we didn’t think any of that would work for touring the Tower. Another time.)

We had a quick breakfast downstairs at the attached coffee place and headed out!

We went back through the park and past the British Museum:

I caught a glimpse of this theater:

Then we ended up here! Trafalgar Square!

Elena was awake and happy and playing peekaboo. She’s too cute.
Also saw this puppet guy and a ton of cool chalk art:

We did a quick breeze through the National Gallery (baby) and hit some of the highlights:

This one of Mde du Pompadour is lovely. The detail is amazing.

I’m also a fan of her double chin.

I was very excited to see this famous self-portrait done by Vigee-Lebrun, who painted Marie Antoinette.

And back outside. We saw the Assyrian Iamassu statue, which was interesting. It’s apparently made of cans of date syrup. https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/art/features/fourth-plinth-new-exhibit-trafalgar-square-london-bull-statue-isis-iraq-michael-rakowitz-invisible-a8275291.html
And we saw real versions of this in the British Museum the day before.

Next up was finding a lunch place and heading towards Parliament and Big Ben. We’ll get to that in the next entry!
