Christmas!

I did a catch-up on the “what have I been up to posts” that got us up to Christmas. But the season was so busy, I thought I’d save Christmas for its own post. And then I tried to blog all the individual events between then and Christmas. So now we are actually up to Christmas. Yes, it’s currently August. But that’s ok.

So here is us Christmas tree shopping. She was a newborn last year when we did this!

We also visited Santa. It’s tradition to torture your children? My poor girl wasn’t happy but then summoned up a brave, teary smile.

Elena was afraid of the tree at first. We would take her up to it, and she would hide her head on your shoulder. Here she lies prostrate (?) in front of it?

She eventually gained courage and enjoyed pulling ornaments off the lower branches. We used all non-breakable this year!

We went to Doug’s office party, which was really fun, since it’s fairly kid-centric and Doug use to just try to ignore it, so I was so glad he was able to enjoy it this year. It was a long time coming. I happened upon an ugly Darth Vader sweater at Target that just happened to match the one I got the year before. How serendipitous! And it was even her size! I tried to get a nice photo of the two of us together.

This is what happened:

Here we are with the office Xmas tree. The admins in Doug’s office put together little Christmas stockings for all the office kids, so we started there before going over to the bigger center-wide party. It was really thoughtful of them to do, and Elena loved her Elf doll (who I have dubbed Elf-o) and other toys. You can see her clutching them here:

At the big party, they had Santa and Mrs. Claus. Elena still seemed unimpressed.

After, to avoid rush hour traffic, we stopped at National Harbor. Here’s their Christmas tree.

At bath-time I got better pics of her sweater, and she was delightfully silly and giggly.

We went to Pittsburgh to visit family around Christmas time and I liked how Doug’s parents’ neighbor incorporated their existing Halloween lights into the display.

This Nutcracker theming Baby Gap did this year was the best. I love the art.

This was hands-down Elena’s favorite present. Lesa tipped me off about this singing Moana doll. (I took away the small parts, don’t worry.) Elena spent all day pressing the button to make her sing a line of song from the movie over and over. She LOVES it.

I didn’t get pics of everything we had for dinner, but we had lots of people over and it was awesome!

Carrot and quinoa dish we tried out:

Ron made tikka masala (yes, not very christmassy, but he has a reputation for making a really good tikka masala and I hadn’t gotten to try it yet, so I encouraged him making it! It was wonderful!

Jasmin, Elena Jasmin’s namesake, sent a lovely Christmas package of stuff for us that arrived Christmas Eve. In it was a fun ornament (we all like Bakeoff), that I put near the ornament Jasmin got us last year!
