What I was up to, March 2019

I feel like I’m catching up, but really I’m still pretty far behind! What was I up to in March?

Early in March, I gave a big tour to a Belgian student. Her astronomy club had submitted some JWST art to our gallery and we had chatted some, and it turned out that she and her mom were going to be visiting DC in March. Fortunately we had a lot of lead time, so I was able to get them foreign national visitor badges. And I arranged a whole tour for them, including getting to meet John Mather (who was in town) and talk to Stefanie, a scientist, about astrobiology. Fien and her mom Tiene were both so nice and we had a lovely long talk over lunch, and then after the tour, they came along with me to get Elena, and then before I dropped them back at the Metro, we stopped at Starbucks and chatted some more. Fien is starting university in the fall and is going to study geology, and it seems like our tour was a big success. Though I was stressed out about everything going as planned, I love doing this kind of stuff. Being able to give a special experience to a student, that may inspire them to go into science, is really special.

And at Starbucks. Elena had one one of my fav clothing items – a Star Wars sweater from Baby Gap.

Christina the astronaut launched into space. A bunch of us who are friends/friendly with her gathered to watch the launch together. She’s up there on the ISS right now!

A new recipe we tried – sticky friend tofu. I really like the sauce for this. We have made it a couple of times. https://www.eatingveganwithme.com/vegan-recipes/sticky-tofu-with-rice/

Doug ran the 4 Courts 4 Miler with Elena in the BOB stroller! I sat and read in a bagel shop til they were done! :-) It was chilly so we layered Elena up and she seemed to enjoy it!

Also, this woman had this huge dog on her lap and I asked if I could take their picture.

There was a farmer’s market near where we parked, so we checked it out. These mini donuts were so good!

One of our sys admins left for a job in another state (where his family was). They made him a D&D card:

Also in March, was our Odd Night Out. So I started the month with some Belgians and am ending it on Belgian cuisine from Flamant, in Annapolis.
