Apollo 50th (July)

One of the coolest things we did this summer (and I’m so glad we made the effort) was to check out the Apollo 50th projection show on the Washington Monument.
Katie and her family happened to be in town, and were doing Boy Scout/Family stuff part of the time, so they were already in DC, and we met them there and managed to find each other (we got there first and got a spot), and it worked out great!
It had been incredibly hot that week/weekend. It was still warm that night, but tolerable.
I was super glad I brought the noise-canceling headset for Elena. She didn’t want to wear it, but as soon as the sound started (and it was deep and loud), she didn’t complain anymore and kept them on the whole time with no fussing!
Hooray for NASA!

Elena definitely kept us entertained while we were waiting for things to start.

It slowly started to get darker!

Then the “static” display started. It wasn’t really static since it had smoke coming out of the bottom. They had projected this a couple nights during the week. But tonight was the actual full show.

I don’t have any pics that would do the show justice.

Here are some short vids, but again, not like being there! Click through if they aren’t showing as vids.

I’m pretty sure I wept through most of it.
Here are some professional pics that were taken by Bill Ingalls.
