Maine Day 1 (September)

Since we have an elderly cat who can’t be left very long, and since I didn’t have much vacation to spend, we brainstormed on places we could go for a long weekend, that might be interesting. We decided upon Maine, since neither of us had managed to go there yet and we’ve (of course) heard good things.

And since we had a lap baby (for two more months), and a Companion Pass via a credit card offer (for three more months), plus some vouchers from a severely delayed flight, we were able to do this trip pretty cheap.

We left early on a Friday morning for Portland, ME on Sept 6th.

We rented a car, took forever to get the carseat installed, and finally we were off to Bar Harbor, with plans to see Acadia National Park. And also eat as much lobster as humanly possible.

Lobster Roll #1 was at Libby’s Market on the drive up to Bar Harbor. It was a lovely day so we ate out at the picnic tables in front. I was going off of Yelp reviews since we had no real intel on places. I was pretty happy with this lobster roll.

We stopped at this little park to stretch our legs and let Elena run around:

Frenchman Bay. Bar Harbor is below the treeline out of sight.

By the time we got to Bar Harbor, it was about dinner time, so I yelped up another suggestion. I had one rec from a travel blog I read (Neverending Footsteps) but it was clear on the other side of Acadia, and just wasn’t practical. So we tried out C-RAY’s.

Most of the lobster places were shack’s with outdoor seating. Which worked fine for the weather we had on Friday.

Elena is super into soups and chowders and she ate a LOT of clam chowder on this trip.

For Lobster roll #2, I got it the way I prefer it, which is with butter rather than mayo, which is probably sacrilege. But it was tasty.

Then we headed to our hotel, which had a playground and a firepit! IMG_9552

We stayed at the Acadia Inn, which was very near the Park, but just outside of Bar Harbor proper. It seemed like a small, family run business. We had an issue with our room fridge, which apparently delayed the s’mores at the firepit, because the same guy was doing all the things. Oops.

Running around on the playground:

S’mores!
