On Sept 1, we decided to check out the National Zoo. I’m pretty sure I have been there before, but it was a very long time ago. The National Zoo is free, and basically situated on a big hill. Parking was tough and of course, we didn’t think to check out what the situation was. Fortunately, we found street parking without too much trouble.
I really liked this mural by the gorillas:

The few exhibits with active animals were super crowded and it was really hard to get a view sometimes. Like all the people watching for the baby gorilla.

We did get a really nice view of the panda though!

Elena was definitely very interested in the pandas!

We might have let her pick out a stuffed animal. Or two.
Elephant!

I’m sure this is fine.

I got to use our first aid kit on a skinned knee. Poor baby. This was the summer of skinned knees.

Ice cream, hooray!

On our way out we split some food truck dumplings, which were excellent. Fun day! We’ll definitely check out the zoo in Baltimore when we get some nice weather again!
