Elena’s Second Birthday (November)

For Elena’s second birthday, we… stuck to the model that worked for her 1st birthday! Janine and Ron were still in the same apartment building with access to the lovely club room. They picked up the berry cake from Whole Foods for us (seriously that cake is so good), and instead of Moana, we went with Elena’s current favorite movie (as of last fall), Coco!

I was able to find Coco themed party accessories, and I bought golden flower petals, and Mexican paper flags (they sell actual Coco ones though I have some paper ones from Epcot somewhere), and Elena already had a Day of the Dead dress from Little Miss Marmalade, so we were all set!

Doug also set up his laptop so we had a slideshow going of photos of Elena from the last two years.

Doug also made guacamole and a pulled chicken slow cooker dish! It’s one we normally use for beef as it’s a barbacoa style recipe but it worked really well with chicken.

We had so many wonderful friends and family come – and Chelsea and Brian and Miranda drove all the way up from Virginia!

The little kids didn’t start playing in earnest til nearly the end of the party, but I think everyone had a good time!

My ex-officemate Penny, who does pottery, made Elena the sweetest tea set. It was a huge hit. Elena loved (and still loves) pouring water.

Oh and I got her a stuffed alebrije Dante for her birthday too. :-)

Here are a selection of photos.
