Redondo Beach: Day 2

Here’s Day 2 of my work trip to Redondo Beach!

I, of course, woke up at 4:30am again, snoozed til it was time to chat with Doug and Elena at 6, and this time I though ahead and scheduled myself some breakfast. I didn’t know they would be feeding some some fruit and croissants at the meeting, but the meeting wasn’t til 9 anyway, and I would have been hungry if I’d waited anyway. So I ordered an incredibly expensive room service latte and breakfast burrito. Fortunately the food was excellent.

I had not realized that our meeting was just across the marina from my hotel, so it was super easy to walk there.

I wore my hexagon bee dress and gold/black Po-Zu shoes for the occasion!

We also had an excellent exoplanet overview lecture!

The main meeting room was glass-walled and this was the view:

Then there was a group photo! Can you find me? I”m on the far left in sunglasses and a black dress.

After lunch (a big group of us went to Cheesecake Factory), we headed over to Northrop Grumman to see the telescope! I was so excited! I hadn’t seen it since it left Goddard. Since you can’t take photos there, they had an official photographer take everyone’s photo. Took a few months to get them, but I was really happy to get my pic back.

We also got a group shot with part of our comms gang:

Co-worker Peter and I were in the same hotel, so we waited outside to meet up with some other folks to drive over to Santa Monica to do a VR experience and get dinner after.

My headset glitched so we had a false start, but once it was working it was so cool. It was Avengers themed and we were wearing Black Panther suits sort of. You could look down at your hands and your hands were gloved. I have a feeling we were just wandering around hilariously in a maze of blank walls. But it looked very real with the goggles on and there were things (like a bannister on the stairs) you could touch that were real. It was 100% worth doing if you ever have the chance.

After that we headed out to watch the sun set over the ocean. It was beautiful.

Meanwhile at home:

Our dinner group split up since some people wanted to see a game, and some of us wanted sushi. This was the view from the sushi place.

We went to Sushi Roku, and asked the waiter for recommendations, and he did not lead us astray. The food was amazing and not that expensive considering how much we ate!

Hamachi Serrano – my picture was blurry but I remember this being a real star:

The pork belly fried rice was amazing too!
