Spain trip report: Barcelona, Day 4 museums & a theater

So our last day in Spain, Friday, I had to check out of the hotel, stow my luggage and then lug around my shoulder bag, which was heavy because of the iPad and other stuff in it that I didn’t want stolen. It was really warm too and I wished I had a hotel room to crash in when I … Continue Reading →

Spain trip report: Barcelona, Day 3, Parq Guell + Dinner

After I checked out Casa Battlo, I decided to try and squeeze in the park that had a ton of Gaudi architecture in it. I took the subway to the stop that seemed nearest and hoped for the best. There were signs that pointed the way. But it was a looong walk along the main street, and then I made … Continue Reading →

Spain trip report: Barcelona, Day 3, Casa Battlo and neighboring buildings

After seeing Casa Battlo, I checked out the buildings next door, which are also really cool-looking.

Spain trip report: Barcelona, Day 3, Casa Battlo

I took the subway, I think to the Passeig de Gràcia station and easily found Casa Battlo, the house designed by Gaudi. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casa_Battlo Here’s a bit about it from Wikipedia: It was built in 1877 and remodeled in 1904-06 by Gaudi and Josep Maria Jujol. The local name for the building is Casa dels ossos (House of Bones), and indeed … Continue Reading →

Spain trip report: Barcelona, Day 3, Lunch and wandering around

After Doug and I saw La Pedrera, he had to head off to his meeting at the University. I knew where I’d be heading for lunch – that cafe I liked so much, Taller de Tapas. The food was so good, I couldn’t help myself!

Spain trip report: Barcelona, Day 3, La Pedrera

If you recall, La Sagrada Familia was designed by Gaudi. He also designed a ton of other stuff in Barcelona. One of the most famous apartment buildings is called La Pedrera. Doug had his meeting start at lunch, but we had the morning, so we took the subway to go see the building. It was pretty easy to get to. … Continue Reading →

Spain trip report: Barcelona, Day 2, Evening

So when we got back from Monserrat, we headed to the hotel for a rest. I really liked our hotel, but I did not care for the bathroom. Instead of a closing door, it had a sliding door… that did not sit flush. There was like a 1″ gap between the door and the door frame. I even took a … Continue Reading →

Spain trip report: Barcelona, Day 2, Montserrat 2

So, here we are up on a mountain in Spain up at Montserrat, on a hike, heading back down to the funicular.

Spain trip report: Barcelona, Day 2, Montserrat 1

We took the subway to the stop that had transfers to the train and from there were able to someone giving directions and selling tickets to Montserrat. So it ended up being pretty easy. On the train ride there, we were sitting across from two pairs of women who started chatting about where they were from and what their lives … Continue Reading →

Spain trip report: Barcelona, Day 1, La Ramblas

So, after our day visiting Cathedrals, we wanted to get paella for dinner. The hotel recommended a place, and it was quite a walk away from the hotel, farther than we thought it would be. It was by the harbor. And was open early enough for us non-Spaniards. Unfortunately, it was really expensive and the food wasn’t very good. And … Continue Reading →

Spain trip report: Barcelona, Day 1, La Sagrada Familia 2

So, I think I’m caught up on everything but Spain and Las Vegas. But I still have tons of pics! When last I left off, we were going to take the lift up to the top of one of the spires of La Sagrada Familia Cathedral in Barcelona.
