What I’ve Been Up to – October, part 1

So here’s October. We have some super cool stuff at work – they mounted two flight spare JWST mirrors onto the test backplane (the structure that holds the mirrors). It looks really cool from inside the cleanroom – from our viewing window, the assembly stand kinda gets in the way. You can kinda see two hex shaped mirrors here, one … Continue Reading →

What I’ve Been Up To – September, part 2

Dahlias and a skipper! Long day, needed Starbucks: Doug got this shot of Willow that’s almost like a cat selfie: Reading kids books is a totally legit way to learn a language, right? Doug and I hitting up Oktoberfest at the Old Stein Inn: We celebrated Talk Like a Pirate Day by going to this cool newish seafood place near … Continue Reading →

What I’ve Been Up To (September, part 1)

Kitty! Though we couldn’t be at DragonCon for Aaron Allston’s memorial, we wore Hawaiian shirts in his honor: We visited my parents and saw this neat cloud formation over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge on the way back. We did some more work on the front yard – put in some mums. A little hard to see, but there’s a rainbow! … Continue Reading →

Brookside Gardens

So it was a nice weekend, a few weekends ago, and Doug and I were looking for something outdoors to do. And I stumbled on Brookside Gardens in Wheaton, Maryland. It’s free and it was quite lovely. It’s not quite as big as Longwood or Winterthur, but it has lots of different gardens and the dahlias and roses were gorgeous! … Continue Reading →

Class 5

A new song from my band. This one is written by Kevin, sung by me, and features some instrumentation we’ve never tried before. Rachel Spicknall Mulford plays the cello, and Joe Nigro plays the banjo. The song has special meaning for us as well, which I think you’ll understand if you listen. I find it uplifting. I hope you enjoy!

Extrasolar

A while ago, a friend of mine got me into playing this browser game called Extrasolar, where you get to explore an extrasolar planet by giving directions to a rover – and it sends back gorgeously live rendered images with changing weather and time of day, and creatures that roam around and “plant” life.  You are there to study its … Continue Reading →

Sunshine

Kjetil, my friend and one of my fav musicians, had a birthday this week. So my band recorded one of his songs as a birthday present. I’m really happy with how our version of his song came out. I used my new Rickenbacker (which I heart so much!) and we tried a few other new tricks. Please have a listen!

Flowers: Feeding our friends’ cats. Raoul really likes the pill pockets he gets. From earlier – my tiara pic from the virtual Coco LJ gathering: Poor woozy Willow post dental cleaning. She’s 100% recovered now, btw. But boy that night was tough. This was later on in the night when she was actually doing a little better. We made a … Continue Reading →

We had a smallish but delightful tea at the British Bell Tea Room in Newark, DE with the lovely Beth as host! The food was SO good. This soup was amazing: Those little chocolate cakes? Delicious. Beth instructed us to eat it all in one amazing bite, so we all did. There might have been encouragements of “just shove it … Continue Reading →

Here’s a full post on the Jane Austen ball! A few weeks ago I went to the Jane Austen Ball at Gadsby’s Tavern in Alexandria with a bunch of lovely friends. The ball was so fun as always.  And I was really glad that some of our NJ/Philly crowd could come down for it!  After the ball, the ladies that stayed … Continue Reading →

Katie and I spent an afternoon at the Cleveland Museum of Art – it was free and a really nice museum with a great cafeteria! They had a lot of really old textiles! This is from Egypt and is 1000 years old! So is this! I have lots more pics of the textiles and of the captions – and of … Continue Reading →

So when I visited Katie in Cleveland, we went to the Rock Hall again. I think I could just camp out permanently at that place. There is always so much to see – and they do change the exhibits up so while some things were the same (and I tried to mostly not photograph the same things I did last … Continue Reading →
