Glendening Butterfly Garden in June

Continuing the backlog of blog posts… Back in June we checked out the Glendening Butterfly garden to see how it progressing – normally we go a bunch in the fall. It was not bad though and we did catch a few butterflies.

Glendening Nature Preserve ^5

We had yet another beautiful fall day in early October, while our friend Conley was in town, so our friend Tim asked if we wanted to go for a hike at Glendening. We did! Conley and Doug had just done the Army 10 Miler in DC, but walking is good for the legs post race. We tried not to go … Continue Reading →

What I’ve Been Up to – September, part 1

So I’m still kinda in a bad mood from last week, so here’s some hopefully fun pictures from September. I’m still on my organizing kick – here’s when I went through our board games. I got rid of some old ones and put the ones we play in the cabinet here and the ones I wanted to keep less in … Continue Reading →

Brookside Gardens

We had a beautiful mid-September day and I just couldn’t stand to be inside anymore! So I left work a little early and headed over to Brookside Gardens, somewhere I’d been wanting to get back to. It’s not super far from work, but I knew I’d be facing Beltway rush hour traffic to get home. Still worth it! I didn’t … Continue Reading →

Glendening Nature Preserve Redux Cubed

Another beautiful weekend in September, another long 4 mile loop at Glendening Nature Preserve! We stopped at the Butterfly Garden of course! A common checkered skipper: A sleepy orange sulphur: A common buckeye: A sleepy orange sulphur: A pearl crescent, I think: And a tiny frog!

Glendening Nature Preserve Redux

Doug and I went back to Glendending Nature Preserve to get in a nice long hike, which we did, and this time we saw a couple different butterflies at the butterfly garden – a Nokomis Fritillary, and a black Swallowtail. At the start of our hike, we saw this guy across the path: Also this: Also two really impressive spider … Continue Reading →

Pumpkin Patch

Here’s some photos from our annual trip the pumpkin patch. Some nice butterflies this time! Love these blue pumpkins! Squashes! Pumpkin pie recipe!

What I’ve been up to… July/August (lots of butterflies and corpse flower pics)

So when we last left off, the corpse flower at the Botanic Gardens in DC had not quite bloomed yet. The corpse flower, if you recall, blooms infrequently for a very short time, and smells like rotting meat for the first 12 hours or so. It’s also like 8 feet tall. The one at the US Botanic Gardens, by the … Continue Reading →

What I’ve Been Up To… July

My friend Alex sent this email to our computer help desk about a bug in his monitor. Literally a bug just died inside his monitor! The email made me laugh. Hi Sysadmins, I’ve got a real doozie for you guys today. There is a bug in my machine. Specifically in my LCD monitor somewhere between the polarizing filter and the … Continue Reading →

Butterfly

When we got home from the pumpkin patch, another butterfly landed on the dahlias and I got a bunch of pictures.

What I’ve been up to… (cats, snakes, flowers, a butterfly, work stuff, and more!)

I got one shot of this yellow butterfly on one of the dahlias. I haven’t seen this type of butterfly in the garden before. I love this pic of Willow. She made herself right at home on a Macy’s box with Doug’s birthday present from his parents in it.

Buttefly #3

I only got one shot of this one!
