Victorian Christmas Tea

Who’s in the mood for Christmas? Yeah. I’m still super behind on blogging anything. BUT I did get to go to a superfun Victorian Christmas tea, hosted by the lovely Carolyn, in the gorgeous Capitol Hill row house that her and her husband are staying in while on assignment in DC. It’s the perfect place for costume parties! The food … Continue Reading →

2016 Year in Review – costumes

I had another personally busy year so I focused mostly on small projects, accessorizing things I already had, wearing things I hadn’t yet worn, repairing things I wore once (ie, taking them in), and trying to finish things I started last year. I was largely successful at that. I wasn’t successful at much else. Small things: – I sewed a … Continue Reading →

Mini Costume Gala

Carolyn has this gorgeous huge house she is renting in Capitol Hill while she and her husband are here, and she has started throwing some parties to take advantage of it. I’ve been to two of them and she’s also a wonderful hostess. This party was in October. I was really happy Kat came down and stayed with me overnight … Continue Reading →

2016 Year in Review – costume events

This year had what might have been a record number of costume events. The holiday tea, the Riversdale 12th Night ball, Birthnight Ball, Francaise dinner, Fort Fred, Awesome Con, Kat’s Victorian Seaside Party, Jane Austen Ball, Riversdale Fancy Dress Ball, Carolyn’s mini costume gala, Pumpkin Tea, Halloween, Gadsby’s fall ball, Carolyn’s Victorian Christmas Tea… and those were just the ones … Continue Reading →

Victorian Seaside Party

Because of our family vacation getting switched to August due to one niece becoming a teacher and getting out of school late, I had the silver lining of getting to go to Kat’s Victorian picnic, which this year had a Seaside theme. It was nautical and really fun. At first I wasn’t sure what I had that would work, costume-wise, … Continue Reading →

Francaise dinner 2016

I’m very belated posting about this, but better late than never. This March was the Francaise dinner! Stephanie, Gloria, and I hosted again, and we also again had it at Gadsby’s Tavern in Alexandria. Next year the torch will be passed to someone else, and we look forward to seeing what the next one looks like! And now, photos! Not … Continue Reading →

Birthnight Ball

We attended the Birthnight Ball at Gadsby’s Tavern last night. Just the ball, not the banquet. We actually had dinner at Warehouse Bar & Grill, and it was delicious. Here’s a group pic: Gadsby’s had food too at the ball, but were were so stuffed from dinner! The traditional hedgehog: George Washington’s birthday cake: This guy’s wig game was on … Continue Reading →

Regency Pumpkin Tea

Here are some pictures from November’s superfun Pumpkin Tea! The chocolate Pentagon was a nice touch! I made a new dress! I made a quick new one for Mom too: There was an ordered fabric free-for-all! Group shot: Regency wedgie shot for Jen! Gloria’s photo: Gloria’s photo: My partial inspiration (plaids – or at least the cross-barred ones – are … Continue Reading →

Indiana Jones and the Adventure of Archaeology

The Nat Geo Museum in DC has a great exhibit on now about Indiana Jones and archaeology. It’s on until Jan 3rd. It’s really awesome – costumes and props from the movies, real artifacts, a really good interactive audio/video guide. It’s a big exhibit – took us 3 hours. They had a lot of costumes, including Marion’s bar fight outfit, … Continue Reading →

Downton exhibit

I was lucky enough to get to go to the Downton Abbey exhibit at Winterthur again back in November – round 2 of exhibit pics here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/maggie42/sets/72157649439839595/ Round 1 of pics from May was here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/maggie42/sets/72157645030253726/

Winterthur Grounds

So the day after Vanessa’s dinner, some of us met up at Winterthur to see the Downton exhibit again and wander the grounds. I didn’t really have anything to wear in cold weather in the right period, nor do my knees do well with a lot of walking in heels or costume shoes, I opted for muggle clothes. Beth, on … Continue Reading →

Ida McKinley dress

They had a new dress up at the Magic Kingdom Hall of Presidents (new to me anyway) – Ida McKinley’s gorgeous black lace pigeon-front dress.
